Stewartby Brickworks

Stewartby Brickworks to Cardington, Bedfordshire. Taken in 2009, this is an historic picture, taking in the Stewartby Brickworks and across to Cardington Sheds. The brickworks are to be demolished in September 2021. Cardington Sheds are where the R100 and R101 were based.

The brickworks were where the Bedfordshire Italian community began after WWII. Italians, (POW's) who wanted to stay here had to work in them for at least two years before being allowed to stay in the UK.
